Full course description
This course covers the types of data that are commonly used in bioinformatics and the databases that store that data. This course utilizes several commonly used bioinformatics databases and tools in order to build proficiency in working with biological data. Throughout this course, students will become familiar with the different types of biological databases, answer biological questions using genomic, proteomic, and structural data, and use online documentation to determine how to use a tool and interpret results. A basic understanding of biology is recommended.
Learning Outcomes:
By the completion of this course, learners will be able to:
-
- Access and interpret genomic, proteomic, and structural data
- Utilize online bioinformatics databases to answer biological questions
- Determine which database is best for a particular situation
