Full course description
Next generation sequencing, or NGS, revolutionized science and healthcare, and is the basis for the field of bioinformatics. In this microcourse, you will learn the basics of NGS and its applications, how sequence alignments are performed, and how online tools can be used to learn about a sequence. You will gain experience analyzing a protein sequence using common bioinformatics tools like InterPro, the UCSC Genome Browser, and BLAST (basic local alignment search tool).
Learning Outcomes:
By the completion of this course, learners will be able to:
-
- Understand what the different next generation sequencing methods are and how sequencing data is generated.
- Become comfortable working with and analyzing sequencing data.
- Be able to use online tools to learn about a gene or protein sequence.
- Become proficient using BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool).
